I submit that for 1908 and the following

years my salary should in fairness be increased to the equiva-

-lent of £1,000 a year, with other allowances as at present.

In submitting this application, I have

borne in mind the facts that I am provided with an Office in the

Supreme Court, which is a very great convenience, and that I am

allowed to retain all costs recovered by me from unsuccessful

litigants in Crown Cases. Were it not for these advantages, I

should have been obliged to resign the appointment long ago.

Against these privileges must be set off the facts that I am

not entitled to any pension, and that when on leave I have to

provide a substitute at my own expense.
